If every country gets a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah, Test cricket will continue to flourish – Irfan Pathan

Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan praised Jasprit Bumrah for his brilliant performance against South Africa in the two-match Test series. The fast bowler represented the national team for the first time in red-ball cricket after being sidelined since July 2022 due to a back injury. He returned as captain in the T20I series against Ireland and participated in the Asia Cup and 2023 ODI World Cup.

30-year-old Bumrah performed brilliantly against South Africa by taking 12 wickets in two matches. Due to the same performance, Jasprit Bumrah was chosen Player of the Tournament along with Dean Elgar. Meanwhile, Pathan praised Bumrah after the series and said that if all teams had a fast bowler like him, Test cricket would progress much further.

Irfan Pathan is not tired of praising Jasprit Bumrah

Irfan Pathan was quoted by Star Sports as saying, “If you are giving priority to red-ball cricket even after surgery, then you will not find a bigger brand ambassador than him in bowling. If every country gets a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah, Test cricket will continue to flourish.”

Pathan was also impressed by Bumrah’s attitude against South Africa. When all the fast bowlers were struggling in the opening match in Centurion, the fast bowler kept the visiting team afloat and captain Rohit Sharma praised his efforts after the match and said that Bumrah is not only for Indian cricket but also for the rest of the world. There is an inspiration for the players also.

Pathan said that, “I have fallen in love with Jasprit Bumrah’s attitude, especially the way he has bowled after back surgery. He is an inspiration not only for Indian cricket but also for world cricket.”

Meanwhile, Bumrah may take a break from the upcoming three-match T20 series against Afghanistan to keep himself fit for the five-match Test series against England. Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami may also get a break from the T20 series.
