Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the team for the three-match T20 series against Afghanistan. This T20 team will be captained by Rohit Sharma while Virat Kohli will also be seen playing in this series.

Let us tell you, after a long gap of 13 months, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have returned to the Indian T20 team. Both these players had performed very well in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 and that is why the team was able to make its place in the final. However, India had to face defeat against Australia in the final.

At present, the eyes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be on the T20 series against Afghanistan. Former South African captain Graeme Smith has given his stand regarding the return of both these players to the Indian team.

Speaking to ANI, Graeme Smith said, ‘Looking at the amount of cricket the Indian team plays, it can be said that it is important to give rest to all the players from time to time and new players should also be given a chance. We have seen that many young players from India perform very well in the IPL and they have left their mark in the T20 format as well. I think the coach and selection panel should understand what the players need and what kind of players they need on which pitches.

It is not so easy to select players with the kind of talent India has: Graeme Smith

The former South African captain further said, ‘India has no dearth of talent and that is why they face a lot of difficulty in selecting players. According to me, along with the experienced players, some young players should also be included and only then the team will perform well.

Let us tell you, Rohit and Virat had earlier played a T20 match against Australia in the World Cup. Afghanistan has also announced its team for this tour. Now it remains to be seen whether Afghanistan can give competition to India in its own backyard or not?
