Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) may soon appoint Wanindu Hasaranga as its new captain of the Men’s T20I team. He is currently out of the team as the all-rounder got injured while playing in the Lanka Premier League in August. He could not even play in the ODI World Cup and Asia Cup held earlier this year.

According to reports, all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga is likely to be made the captain of the Sri Lanka T20 team, while it has been confirmed that Dimuth Karunaratne will remain the Test captain. Reports also suggest that the SLC selection committee will meet again on Monday and take a decision ahead of Zimbabwe’s tour of Sri Lanka in January 2024.

Let us tell you that Hasarga has been an important all-rounder for the Sri Lankan team. Topped the list of wicket-takers during the ODI World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe earlier this year.

RCB had released Hasaranga

Whereas Wanindu Hasaranga was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) before the auction this year. But in the mini auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad bought the Sri Lankan all-rounder for Rs 1.50 crore.

Talking about the Sri Lankan team, it became a part of the World Cup organized in India by winning the qualifier tournament. However, Sri Lanka’s performance in the World Cup 2023 was very disappointing. He was eliminated from the group stage. After this there was a lot of turmoil in Sri Lankan cricket.

Now Sri Lanka will face Zimbabwe in a three-match ODI series from January 6. After this, a three-match T-20 series will also be played. All matches will be played at R Colombo. Will be played at Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.
